Situated high up in the pretty hilltop hamlet of Lempitlaw, only 5 miles from the cobbled streets of Kelso, the Barnekin is most of all about LOCATION. 

At the front, the cottage overlooks the village green and beyond to the Borders lowlands. But the very best actually awaits guests at the back, where the magnificent views south, over open countryside towards the rolling majesty of the Cheviots, are enjoyed from almost every room and from the privacy of the spacious, enclosed back garden.

The inside of the cottage, closely resembling a traditional croft in its award winning style, oozes traditional character and cosiness, with warm hues of gold and yellow, soft leathers and rich contrasting woods throughout.  See the 'Accommodation' page for lots more photos. 

This beautiful part of Scotland is packed with things to do: walk, fish, cycle, horse ride and explore the rich local heritage and landscape. From Lempitlaw, by car, there is equally easy access to both the Borders' hills and the coast, castles and walking country of Northumberland. Eat out and shop in nearby Kelso or travel just over an hour to spend a day in cosmopolitan Edinburgh or, in the opposite direction, lively Newcastle. The market towns of Jedburgh, Melrose, Wooler, Berwick, Alnwick and Rothbury are all closer still.

But if you what you want most of all is to truly get away from the crowds, then this is the spot!
